Bring Sci-Port's hands-on science-as-inquiry programs into your classroom with awesome teacher 
workshops! Our teacher workshops are designed by certified educators to provide hands-on, minds-on 
activities for your students. CLUs are offered by Bossier, Caddo and DeSoto school systems for of our 
workshops. New opportunities are added throughout the year; call (318) 424-8660 to register.


 
  1. Call our Visitor Sales and Services at (318) 424-8660.
  2. Have this information ready: Name, School, Address, Email, Phone Number and Grade(s) You Teach.
  3. The workshop leader will send out a confirmation email one week before the workshop.
  4. Register at least one week in advance for the workshop of your choice (listed below).

STEAM Ahead!

Come and learn hands on classroom activities that will engage students in STEAM curriculum.  Teachers will engage in 90min. make and take workshops designed to be used in the K8 classroom, with each workshop designed to introduce a different aspect of science, technology, engineering, art or math. Come to one, or come to all five! STEAM workshops are held from 3:30–5 p.m.

S Put the science in your classroom with chemistry (Aug. 27, 2016)
T Engage students through the use of technology and Web 2.0 skills (Nov. 12, 2016)
E Challenge students through engineering by examining and building
     structures with only simple household items.  (Feb. 7, 2017)

M Make foam rockets to engage students in math using geometry and measurement skill.

Beginner Robotics Workshops

Free for teachers of all grades and subjects

Learn the basics of implementing a LEGO® Mindstorms™ EV3 Robotics program in your classroom while using STEM and project-based learning skills. Participants are encouraged to bring their own robot kit and laptop; however, Sci-Port does have a limited number of kits and laptops available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. Science Fair Survival 101

Free for teachers of all grades and subjects
Are you an elementary, middle or high school teacher trying to coordinate your school’s science fair? Are you a classroom teacher requiring your students to participate in your school’s science fair? Organization is the key to success when it comes to planning a science fair. This workshop is packed with practical ideas, creative resources, judging guidelines, a planning guide, timetables and even suggestions for student projects to consider and those that should be avoided at all costs! After this workshop you will walk away with the knowledge needed to plan and implement an unbeatable event from start to finish.

Project Learning Tree
Saturday, October 8, 10 a.m.4 p.m.
(This workshop is intended for educators of K12 children.)

Free (Registration fees paid for by grant from the U.S. Forest Service)
Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an award-winning environmental education program teaching students how to think, and what not what to think, about environmental issues. Workshop participants will receive a PLT Activity Guide featuring 96 activities, each correlated to Louisiana Department of Education standards for science, math, social studies and language arts.
