Shreveport-LA-Louisiana Association for the Blind (LAB) will partner with Sci-Port Discovery Center to host a camp for children with visual impairment in the Caddo-Bossier area. The week long Up, Up and Away camp is held from July 10-14 at Sci-Port. Held in conjunction with the Red River Balloon Rally, campers will explore aerodynamics, make rockets and understand how planes, birds, and other objects are able to fly.

The Up, Up and Away camp will give children educational and interactive opportunities, leading to increased confidence and personal perception. “We are so proud and privileged to have a fantastic place like Sci-Port in our city. They graciously provided a unique opportunity for our visually impaired children to learn while having fun. Through our partnership with Sci-Port, this was the best summer camp LAB has ever hosted, and one that our campers will long remember,” said LAB President & CEO Shelly Taylor.  Sci-Port President/CEO Ann S. Fumarolo adds, “We always say that Sci-Port is for everybody in our community. Partnering with LAB is just another example of that. It was a pleasure to have their children at camp, and I hope to see more Sci-Port/LAB collaborations in the future.”

Sci-Port Activities are cross-curricular and include STEAM, focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
